Online Ukulele Classes Begin – Live on Zoom!
July 6 @ 10:00 am - 12:15 pm PDT

I’m offering two online ukulele classes this summer, “campfire” style! Learn how to memorize and play a song with no notes so you can truly enjoy making music around the campfire (or on the porch, in the yard, etc.). To learn more about the historical context of the songs we’ll be studying, check out this blog post. Read below to decide which of this summer’s online ukulele classes is right for you, then click on the provided links for more information and/or to register.
10:00am PDT: Spirituals of the Fisk Jubilee Singers
We’ve all joined in on sing-alongs like Swing Low, Sweet Chariot and Michael, Row the Boat Ashore. But I bet you don’t know about the group of young singers from Tennessee who are largely responsible for the fact that you know these songs. Join me this summer for Ukulele Campfire: Spirituals of the Fisk Jubilee Singers!
This online ukulele class will meet:
- Wednesdays, 10:00-11:00am PDT
- 6 weeks: July 6 – August 10
- Registered participants receive a meeting link to use for the entire term, as well as weekly recap emails and practice videos.
- LEARN MORE AND REGISTER HERE
11:15am PDT: Summer of Soul
What do B.B. King, Gladys Knight & The Pips, and the Staple Singers all have in common? This summer, we’ll be learning songs performed by all of them as featured artists at the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. Their performances were preserved on tape and included in the 2021 Oscar-winning documentary Summer of Soul.
