The creative process can be an inspiring, fulfilling, yet sometimes lonely journey. Songwriting Sessions are designed to support your individual writing experience in meaningful community with other songwriters.
What are Songwriting Sessions?
The primary purpose of Songwriting Sessions is to give you the opportunity to explore, write, wrestle with, and share your song(s)! I try to offer these sessions regularly, in 6-8-week terms or as a workshop series. Each session lasts between 1.5-2 hours and runs approximately as follows:
- I bring a song or two for a group Song Study together as a group, focusing on a particular question, theme, technique, etc.
- Participants have a chunk of Workshop time to work individually, either with an assigned exercise or whatever feels like the most meaningful use of time.
- We close with an opportunity for participants to share their reflections on what they learned about the creative process, and about themselves as songwriters.
I recommend Songwriting Sessions for those who:
- want to learn about songwriting by doing it regularly
- are open to taking risks and trying things just to see what we learn
- are willing to engage in a regular writing practice for the duration of the series
All levels of experience with songwriting are welcome, including absolute beginners. Prompts and exercises will include multiple options to accommodate the challenges you are ready to take on!
Sign me up! When are the next Songwriting Sessions?
The best way to find out when the next Songwriting Sessions are being offered is to sign up for my newsletter and follow my blog.
Do you offer these Sessions online?
Yes, I have offered Songwriting Sessions online, sometimes in conjunction with in person sessions, sometimes separately. As mentioned above, sign up for my newsletter and/or follow my blog to stay up to date on the latest offerings!
Are these Sessions applicable in a camp or festival setting?
Absolutely! Offering a Songwriting Session each day of a camp or festival is a great way to allow participants to dip their toes into songwriting as much or as little as they like, and it’s a great way to keep creativity flowing throughout the event. See Festivals, Camps and Retreats for a full list of offerings.
